November 2008

Chloe has been into this cooking thingy for ages.  Everyday she will pull out the cooking toy set from the shelf, setting up the table with plates, food, pretending to eat, drink….then she will take out the toy cash register pretending to sell the food…I have got paper bags of pretend food stuffed into my handbag, her backpack, JD’s school bag and lately my husband’s laptop bag from work..oops!

But one morning, I was greeted with a most delicious breakfast, it looked good enough to eat, except it would take a while for me to chew and digest it all.  But hey, it’s the thought that counts!  And she knows that mummy always check her emails when she has her morning breakfast and cup of black tea :)

A week ago, JD’s kindy held a sports carnival for all the kindergarten and pre-primary kids.

I was just as excited seeing him all geared up for the event.  He has been practicing his running, relay, ball skills in school and at home.  JD likes running, and everyday he will practice running in the backyard.

The sports carnival morning arrived, he woke up, had his Weetbix for breakfast, drank a glass of soy milk, put on his school uniform.  Then he ran back into his room and got out a pair of bright orange socks from his wardrobe.  He smiled and said to me “My orange socks can make me run fast, like this” (with his hands in running motion).

But JD also knew that it’s not all about winning.  He was very cool about it.  He even said to me “Mummy, if I win, I win, if I lose, that’s okay too!”  He then added “Because Mrs. Walker said it’s about doing your best.”  I love the values his kindy teachers impart into them.

So did he do his best?  Yes, he did me proud.  He actually ran the first in his very first race…and it was cute seeing him running his best with all the parents cheering on.

Yes, I felt a mix of proudness and happiness, and it brought a bit of happy tears to my eyes too.  My son’s first sports carnival, hee!

Mummy: “Chloe, what is daddy’s name?”

Chloe: “Phillip Y”

Me: “What is mummy’s name?”

Chloe: “Priscilla”

Me: “What is gege’s name?”

Chloe: “Jayden Y”

Me” What is your name?”

Chloe:” Ummm, Princess!!!!!!”

Me: “No, your name is Chloe”

Chloe: “No, I am Princess Chloe!”

Ooooooo….

While I am not so excited with this whole princess thingy, I was impressed with the fact that she knows all our names, because we have never taught her, but she has been paying attention to people addressing us.  Let’s just hope we get over this princess stage soon, or not.

My 5 year old loves dressing up as a superhero.  He likes to dress up as Batman, Iromman, Ninja Turtle, Superman, Power Ranger, Star Wars character, Ben 10 and many more.  Unfortunately we don;t have many dress up suits for him, and a lot of it are made up of home made paper masks, tea towels, pegs…and so far he only own one Batman suit.

The routine at home is everyday he will open my kitchen towels drawer in the kitchen, go outside to get a few pegs from the laundry line, and the next minute he is Luke Skywalker running around with his blue Light Saver!

One afternoon he wanted to be Ironman, so he made a mask for himself eventhough he had one from his birthday a few months ago.  No doubt he was watching Ironman… Then he became very quiet, and I was enjoying the quietness because I had a bit of work to do.

But when I turned around, I saw that even my Superhero that vowed to “always protect mummy and fight the monsters” fell asleep too in the mid afternoon.

It’s that time of the year when things get extra busy and I get extra lazy!

There’s a meet up every weekend, everybody has this thing about “must catch up before Christmas!”…

There’s work Christmas functions, school’s Christmas party, kindy mum’s last dinner, holidays to organise, presents to get and for all that reasons I will be getting out of town this Chritsmas!  3 days before Christmas!  And it’s the first time in 7 years I am not having to organise the family Christmas dinner and doing everything from secret santa to shopping to cooking to cleaning up.  Yay!  So I am not putting up the tree this year either because as I said I am too lazy to put up the tree, take it down, pack it away and so forth…

It’s the lazy season for me I tell you, ha!

That aside, on the kids, they are great!  Constantly busy, active, finding things to do, talking, asking questions non-stop, playing princess and superhero, stacking up blocks and smashing them down, cycling, running, painting, eating, drinking….everyday is so full of life for them!  And I love it!

So inspired by the movie “Wall-E”, I present to you JD….

And in this clip, I have “Wall-E” whom is helping to clean the television screen, but as for Chloe, I have no idea whom she is trying to be.  But she cracks me up big time when I saw what she put on her foot and she walked pretty well in it too!

Crazy kids I have.

And not so long ago, she went on a fire engine visit, and she cracked me up.  Not only because she is funny.  But there’s this determined spirit in her, that she is always ready to give everything a go.  The determination to climb on the fire engine by herself, sitting down on the floor listening attentively to story, having a go at ringing the bell, hosing down the reel….so much so that Fireman Kevin said “Oh Miss Chloe, you are a little fighter!” :)

And usually after a day of play, fun, school, learning and the many activities we have in a day, it’s nice to sit down and watch them.  Each of them quietly slurping away a home made soup, putting spoonful after spoonful of dinner into their tummies, ah, bliss!

Coincidetally, JD is a left handed, and Chloe is a right handed.  So they can always sit close to one another at dinner table without their arms bumping into one another.  And they like to sit very close to one another too.  Cute.  I love them both.  So much.
