Hands up if you get breakfast in bed.

No, I didn’t.  But I slept in till 8.10am.  And my 2 little kids ran into my room, burst the door opened, the older one exclaiming “Happy mother’s day” and the younger one climbing into my bed wanting to have a horse ride on my legs.

That was how I enjoyed my mother’s day morning.  I wasn’t fancy about the breakfast in bed, because honestly it just wasn’t practical with 2 young kids in my bed.  And I would be way too lazy to clean up the bread crumbs in bed.  I didn’t want any special presents, because I didn’t want any.  I was just happy, contended with I have.  I really am.  But I was also too lazy to think about what I really want.  That’s me.

I was just happy that JD came to church with me this morning.  He sat next to me, listening to what all the kids talked about their mums at the service.  And he put his hand on my shoulder when the pastor prayed for the mothers.

I am thankful that I have a mother.  And if not for my grandmother, I wouldn’t have my mother.  And because of my mother, I can be here to experience motherhood.

Being a mother is a super job.  You need to have so many skills.  Birthing.  Mothering.  Nursing.  Pediatrician.  Transportation.  Cooking.  Management.  Accounting.  Analysing.  Referee.  Story telling.  Writing.  Reading.  Mending.  Energy.  Talking.  Playing.  Teaching.  Disciplining.  Singing.  Dancing.  Walking.  Running.  Listening.  Marketing.  Planning.  Craft.  Science.  Oh, it’s a multi-disciplinary task.

So, I take my hat off to all mothers out there.  Because it can be a damn difficult job some days, and you still wake up every day to continue on with this task.  I still do it everyday, some days I feel like I had enough after a big day, and almost enough to roar at my kids, I am thankful for them for they have taught me patience, real patience.  I don’t find myself loving my kids any lesser.  If any, I love them everyday.  And I do.

So on this special mother’s day, I like to say a prayer for all the mothers out there as we have prayed in church this morning.

“Dear Lord, thank you for the mothers in our lives.  Thank you for my mother whom have birthed me, and for her in my life.  I pray for all mothers out there today.  That you give us the wisdom to be the role model for our children.  That in times of joy we give thanks to you.  In times for difficulty we also look to you for refuge and support.  I pray for to-be mums that are carrying their precious unborn child in them.  Look after them Lord.  For ladies whom have a desire to be a mum but time has not arrived, I pray for your intervention and miracles.  For the single mums out there, oh Lord, look after them for what they have to deal with in a day.  I also pray for the mother-in-laws, cause they get quite a bad rap too.  And Mother’s Day can sometimes be a bittersweet moment for some of us.  For those that might be mourning the loss of their mothers, or a child, I also pray for you.  Or some of us that might have a difficult relationship with our mother/child, I also pray for you.  So, help us Lord, to fulfill this task.  To do it gladfuly and joyfully everyday.”

But remember, it doesn’t need to be Mother’s Day for you to say thanks to mum.  Give them a call everyday or often when you can.  A quick hello, a hug, a cuddle, a bear hug, a pat, bake her a cake because mums would never get tired of that.

I am happy I had a great day with my husband and my kids.  Having a simple sandwich for lunch at home as restaurants would be way too crowded, playing wii in the afternoon, eating a slice of chocolate cake, my husband made me dinner…I am thankful for this day.  For the pleasure of being a mother.  Thank you ma!

For every Wednesday morning in the last 10 weeks, I had to pack both snack and lunch boxes for JD.  He spends the whole day in kindy every Wednesday and half days on 2 other days.  For the first 3-4 weeks, it was always a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch.  Then I got bored with it and started packing pasta salad, rice salad as lunch for him.

So last week like every other Wednesday morning, I asked him what he wanted for lunch, and this time he said to me “Mum, I want Chinese today, char siu, rice and some dunplings!”

It was easy, we had some leftover char siu from the night before, I cook some rice in the rice cooker, pan fried some “gow gee” I wrapped up the night before in preparation for next day’s lunch.

Tada, a “Chinese lunch box” he proudly said to his teacher as he walked into the classroom that day….

School holiday starts tomorrow, I have also taken 2 weeks off from work, my diary is already packed with birthday parties, playdates, holiday program, kindy kids day out….

Why is it that my life seems to get even busier after my first born started attending school…hmph

Looking at my diary again, I have only left with 3 days when there’s isn’t anything planned, and I think I am quite happy to keep it just that way.  Weekend is going to be kept free, because I desperately want to spend some time alone with my husband.   Just to chill.

Because it is my 2 weeks break too…

I have always wanted to bake hot cross buns.  For years I never got around to it but I did it yesterday, finally!

I did it when my kids and all the other little 2 years olds were having their naps.  I had to tip toe around the kitchen, pulling out the baking trays quietly cautious not to wake up anyone.

It was fun.  Once again, my bread maker did the kneading, rising of the dough for me.  After about 1hr 10 mins, I took the dough out, split it into 12 portions, cover it with a tea towel for 3o mins for the dough to rise further.

Then I mixed some water and flour together, pipped a cross over the buns before putting it in the oven.

30 minutes later, a tray of hot cross buns were ready.  By then all the little ones started to stir and wake.

After a brush of some honey and water mixed together, the hot cross buns were glazed and ready for our afternoon tea.  I could hear JD in the background “Ummm, I can smell bread” and all the little ones were all jumping up and down, all wanting to have a fresh hot cross bun!

We ate some, and each kid got to bring home one together with some chocolate eggs and we gave 4 buns to our neighbour too.  It is all gone now.

All because she wants to watch her favourite “Postman Pat” at 8.15am on the morning kids TV, and she isn’t allowed at the sofa till she finished her breakfast.

My 4yo JD has a 2nd passion, and that’s building Lego.

This kid loves Lego.  He spends an average 2-3 hours or more a day on Lego.  He sits in the living room, poured himself over his mega box of Lego, all different parts, building, dismantling, building, telling me about his construction from across the hall…

I am really enjoying him with his new interest.  Because I could sit down have my cuppa in the evening, listening to his “Lego City” stories, and we can talk all night about his constructions and so forth.  His father on the other hand, will be across from us, busy bidding for a 5-7kg bulk Lego from ebay!

Ah, joy of parenthood….

And I like this angry looking Lego man…

All aboard on the Lego boat, which actually float and sail on the water…

And this poor guy whom has blood over his forehead…

Dining table is also a Lego construction “ground”

Kitchen floor can also be Lego construction area…

But just don’t let me step on a Lego brick when I am walking around in the house …ouch! Jayden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 4yo JD has 2 great passion - drawing and building Lego.

One evening last week, JD requested for a movie while I was doing some baking in the kitchen.  I found the movie for him, he put it on and then I heard some furnitures shuffling noises from the family room.

I came out of the kitchen, and he has gotten himself a rather good set up…

Watching Surf’s Up DVD, his sketch book up on the bar stool, a kid’s chair to put his grass jelly drink and crayons, and the stool on the other side was for his bowl of grapes…

Funny kid.

Yipee, Bon Jovi concert!  Yes, tonight!  Woo hoo!

Babysitter arranged, kids been briefted, dinner will be cooked earlier, ah, just me and hubby out tonight, I am looking forward to it!

And it is long weekend, even better!

From this post,  Ham and Cheese Pikelets

Lots of friends have asked “What is a pikelet?”  Yes, it is indeed a very Australian thing and when I refer to wikepedia, it also refer to as “In Australia, New Zealand, and the English Midlands and parts of the north, a small, thick colonial-style pancake, known in parts of Britain as a drop-scone or Scotch pancake”.

So, yes, it is like a pancake!  You can use pancake mix if you have it sitting in your pantry, just instead of the usual topping of strawberries and cream, or bananas with maple syrup, you have it savoury!

It’s a quick and easy meal for you and I can guarantee most kids will like it, well, which kid doesn’t like pancake!!!!!  Come and see me, hiakhiakhiak!

We have had a great Christmas, really enjoyed the day, and spending lots of good time with hubby and kids.  In OZ, our Christmas is usually HOT - around 38 deg c!

So our Christmas is spend with air conditioning on a full blast, lots of cold drink, salads, and having the kids run around throwing water balloons!  I had to roast a turkey though, and it’s just funny because it is so damn hot out there and I have my oven going at 180 deg c for 4 hours!

Hey, this is OZ!

Happy shots of the kids…Merry Xmas to all, and from the kids especially to their Waigong, Waipo and Aunties back home!
